Special tour of Toledo Municipal Archives for Section members SLMT
Toledo Municipal Archives
During the CITRA in Toledo in October 2011, representatives of the Section were invited to a special tour of Toledo's Municipal Archives Service by our colleague Mariano Garcia Ruiperez.
Marciano gave us a privileged introduction to Toledo's early mediaeval charter, act books and other records. Key features of the visit included the custom built sixteenth century archive storage cupboard and a secretly locked key casket, wich our colleagues Andrew Nocholls and Mies Langelaar managed to open with a minimum of fuss. The casket housed two of the six keys with which to open the cupboard and was ordered by King Phillip II.
In addition to a wonderfull collection of early documents, Toledo Municipal Archives boasts a fine collection of graphic images, photographs and maps and plans. The service has an extensive publication programme also.
For a further account of the visit you can look at the photo gallery, that, thanks to our colleague Heinrich Berg, head archivist of Vienna, contains a lot of pictures of our visit.
