ICA-AtoM: Access to Memory

Date Added:17 January 2012

ICA-AtoM (Access to Memory) is a freely available, open source software package, which enables archive institutions to make available online descriptions of their holdings, in accordance with ISAD (G) and other ICA descriptive standards.

It is also intended to be multi-lingual. This project plays an important part in realizing ICA's vision of harnessing new technologies in order to improve access to archives.

Since its inception in 2005, the project has been supported by funding from UNESCO, the Archives of France, the former Archives School of the Netherlands, and the National Centre for Documentation and Research in the United Arab Emirates. Many institutions throughout the world are currently testing the software and sending their comments on a regular basis to the developer (Artefactual Systems Inc., based in Vancouver).

At the present time, after the launching of version 1.2 including the recommendations of the independant audit conducted in 2010, ICA will implement a phase of dissemination and training.
