ICA Professional programme : many ways to engage the issues

What does ICA mean by engaging the issues?

Well, it's when the ICA identifies those key concerns which can have a positive or negative impact on the care of archives, particularly within an international context, with a view to taking an active part in its resolution. The ICA then has a number of options. It can use its own internal expertise and resources to develop and implement solutions like developing standards or holding conferences. However, often it will approach partners, either national or international, to seek answers or develop a dialogue to discuss ideas. For example, the ICA participated in planning for emergency response in Cologne after the collapse of the Historical Archives building there.

But often the issues are long-standing and require careful negotiation. Because the ICA is a well-established body and works closely with a wide range of organisations it is able to participate in such negotiations and contribute to solutions, such as raising the profile of digital preservation amongst international organisations.

Through ICA's programmes, projects, working groups or professional meetings, you can contribute: engage the issues!
