This Congress enjoyed a rich programme of presentations, where close to 115 archives professionals shared their experiences and expertise with colleagues from around the world through some 110 sessions organized around the themes of sustainability, trust and identity in archives. The Congress ended on the evening of 23 August with a speech by the President of ICA, Martin Berendse, who was followed in turn by the Director of the National Archives of Australia, David Fricker.

At the Annual General Assembly, which took place the next day in the Great Hall, delegates overwhelmingly approved the new constitution of ICA. At the same time the Principles of Access to Archives were unanimously adopted and the venue of the Annual Conference 2014 was confirmed as Girona, Spain, with the theme of “Archives and Cultural and Creative Industries”. The location of the 2013 Annual Conference is still to be decided.
The Director of the National Archives of Korea, Mr Song Gwi-Geun, then officially invited all members of ICA to the International Congress in 2016, which will take place in September of that year. The themes of the Congress will be “Archives, Harmony and Friendship”.
Finally, Martin Berendse was pleased to honour four new Fellows of ICA, Mr Lewis Bellardo, Mrs Colleen McEwen, Mr George MacKenzie and Mr Setareki Tale, before warmly thanking the team of the National Archives of Australia for their excellent work: the 2012 Brisbane Congress was indeed a great success.
