International standards for archival description

The International Council on Archives has developed four descriptive standards to improve the accessibility of archival material and to help users better understand and interpret the archival material they use.

These standards are

  1. the General International Standard Archival Description or ISAD(G) (1994, 1999),
  2. the International Standard Archival Authority Record for Corporate Bodies, Persons and Families or ISAAR(CPF) (1996, 2004),
  3. the International Standard for Describing Functions or ISDF (2008),
  4. and the International Standard for Describing Institutions with Archival Holdings or ISDIAH (2008).
