Call for projects

About the call

THE 2012 CALL IS NOW OPEN!

The ICA Programme Commission (PCOM) invites Members, Branches, Sections, Committees, and others to submit proposals for ICA support to archival projects.

Guidance relating to ICA-supported projects is found in “Project Guidelines, Processes, and Evaluation Criteria”. We invite applicants to read carefully these guidelines, in particular the conditions of eligibility, and the definition of what is an ICA project. In addition, applications which do not include a project plan (or at least an outline of a plan of work) and a budget will not be accepted.

We also encourage them to consider the other components of the PCOM toolkit for applicants which are available on the call page. These include:

• the definition of a project,

• how to apply in 12 steps (life of a project),

a commented application form, and

• the application forms for three successful projects (one in English, one in French, and one in Spanish).

Applicants may request ICA endorsement (approval but without funding), financial support, or both.

The maximum amount normally available for each project is 5,000 Euros, subject to budget availability. However, for projects that PCOM considers of highest priority or interest for the archival community and for which 5,000 Euros would clearly be insufficient to enable the project to move forward, PCOM may choose to allocate up to 10,000 Euros. Anyone who anticipates proposing a project with requirements for funding beyond 10,000 Euros must contact the ICA Secretariat before applying to explore the feasibility of additional funding and also the possibility of seeking additional funding sources.

PCOM will pay a special attention to proposals for projects with a link to the ICA three specific programmes (digital recordkeeping , emergency management , and good governance), and also to projects aiming to develop/adapt/translate existing tools, models, guidelines and standards or training packages. [Multilingual] projects involving several regions or stakeholders are welcome.

The Programme Commission urges those who intend to seek ICA support to contact the ICA Secretariat early in the planning stages of the project. The Secretariat will provide information on how to best link the project to the six ICA Strategic Objectives and will try to identify related ICA projects, subject area specialists who might be of assistance, as well as to provide guidance on possible partners.

Young and new professionals are encouraged to apply in the framework of a special call, and to present their own project. The process and conditions of eligibility are available on the “Young and New professionals” programme page .

Proposals should be submitted to the ICA Secretariat by 1st March 2012 at the very latest. Earlier receipt of the full proposals would be helpful. PCOM anticipates that decisions will be announced by 15 May 2012.

Please note that the ICA Fund for International Archives development (FIDA) will launch a separate call for projects with its own calendar. The FIDA awards are specifically for the development of archives and archivists (not just national ones) in developing countries where there is a clear need and a good proposal for helping archival development there. Further information about FIDA awards is available on the FIDA project page.
