ICA expert’s profile

The ICA expert's profile should fit in with the ICA core values, as they are expressed in the 2008-2018 strategic directions:

"In fulfilling ICA's mission, its members will strive uphold the values of equality, diversity, openness and mutual respect across national boundaries and cultural traditions."

Above all, the ICA expert is an international expert. The expert will be a kind of ICA label ambassador, and will therefore contribute to raise the profile of the organization. He is able to work in different professional environments, including developing countries. 

He has to be available, and ready to serve ICA either as a volunteer or  or  or an ICA professional partner.

The ICA expert:

  • is usually responsible for a scientific or professional project, or has got high level skills in a given professional domain;
  • has a role of reflection, stimulation and coaching of scientific, professional or technical working groups;
  • offers his scientific or professional skills and competencies to the profession in the specific fields he masters;
  • widely promotes and disseminates ICA standards and best practices.

Set of competences for an ICA expert:

 - knowledge

  • archival theory and practice;
  • specific knowledge of the domain(s) of expertise, and of the professional and extra-professional environment linked to it;
  • project management methodology;
  • language skills;
  • knowledge of ICA.
 

- know-how

The expert should be able:

  • to develop a reflection and a watch function in the domain of expertise;
  • to carry out a research project or study;
  • to disseminate his knowledge (training, publications, assessment, etc.);
  • to manage/co-ordinate  a project team or a working group;
  • to manage/co-ordinate projects activities.

 

EXAMPLES OF ICA EXPERTS PROFILES

Example 1

A professional may be an ICA expert in the field of medical and health archives, with a focus on appraisal, and able to provide training.

Example 2

A professional may be an ICA expert in the field of audiovisual archives, being able to represent ICA in a conference and give a paper on the subject.

Example 3 

A professional may be an ICA expert in the field of audiovisual archives, but from the technical point of view, and able to deliver training.

Example 4

A professional may be an ICA expert in the field of records management, being able to give consultancy in a developing country and manage a project.

Example 5

A professional may be an ICA expert in the field of risk management and be able to set up an ICA working group to develop guidelines.
