Translators' stories

They are translators for ICA and they tell about their experience

Szollosi Vanessa

"Participating in the translation group of ICA-Req was for me an interesting and original approach to the world of standards, an opportunity to exchange views on translation and interpretation of a concept with archivists from different background, and also to improve my English!"

Vanessa Szollosi, member of the team which translated the ICA-Req standard into French, Archives nationales, France.

Esther Cruces Blanco

"One of my concerns as an archivist in my daily professional life has been that many were not able to access the information provided by ICA because of of the languages used. That is why for some time and to address the concerns expressed by the ICA Secretary General, I have been committed to translate into Spanish whatever material is needed. Therefore it is a positive and rewarding experience, because finding the exact and appropriate words make me think about concepts and ideas of the archives domain".

Esther Cruces Blanco, ICA/SAR Secretary, Archivo provincial de Málaga, Spain.

Esther regularly collaborates to translate Flash from English into Spanish.

"Having worked from 1986 to 2000 as chief editor of ARCHIVUM, the ICA journal founded at the ICA Congress in 1950, I spent five years before resuming an activity within the editorial board of COMMA and contributing to the translation from English into French of various texts for ICA: summaries of papers, articles for FLASH, references. Currently I am doing this "on demand" and trying to provide ICA with the translation as soon as possible. I can keep in touch with the Secretariat of the ICA which over the years has remained practically composed by people who have become friends; it is a way of getting updated information about ICA, its projects, meetings and publications."

André Vanrie, Member of the COMMA editorial board, Belgium.
