A new network for Judicial Archivists in Senegal

Date Added:21 April 2011

The seminar on Judicial archives which took place in Senegal from 28 February to 2 March was an excellent opportunity to launch a national network for Judicial Archivists

Under the auspices of the Centre for Judicial Training and with the support of the French cooperation (programme “ support to the Justice sector”), the National Centre for Judicial Archives hosted from 28 February to 2 March 2011 a seminar on the management of Courts records in Senegal. The first workshop brought together archivists, librarians and some senior clerks of Senegalese courts. It was conducted by Atoumane Mbaye, Adama Aly Pam, Saliou Amadou Sissokho and Atoumane Ndiaye, Director of the Centre.

This workshop enabled the participants to reflect on the harmonization of records management processes and of courts records description, but also to develop a manual of procedures for courts records.

The archivists established a national network of judicial archivists and a committee of standards and best practices.

The participants at the seminar strongly recommended taking steps to approach ICA in order to establish a new section on judicial records.
