International Archive Day 2011 by the Expatriate Archive Centre
International Archive Day by the Expatriate Archive Centre
This film was made by Expat TV during our event on June 9th 2011 celebrating International Archive Day. This was the first time that we have taken part in this celebration. We estimate that we had approximately 150 visitors during the day.
The event was attended by representatives of several embassies in The Hague, including Mr Paul Arkwright, Ambassador from the United Kingdom. He explains that because people moving around the world tend to disregard their personal story, it's wonderful to have an Archive which collects these stories before they are lost.
Our Director, Elske van Holk, says that it's good to have so much support from the local community, including the city of The Hague, in our endeavour to create more awareness of our Archive and archives in general.
Alderman Marjolijn de Jong (responsible for International Affairs) says that the Expatriate Archive Centre is unique in the world and that it's good that it's situated in The Hague because this is where there is the largest community of expatriates in Europe.
