The International Archives Day 2012 in Bosnia and Herzegovina

The Week of Archives

International Archival Day will be celebrated in a special way this year in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina. This will be the second time that the Sarajevo Historical Archive is celebrating International Archival Day by organizing the Week of Archives. This year it will be held from June 4–9, during which time many events will take place in Sarajevo.

On Monday, June 4, we will present the Universal Declaration on Archives on a press conference.

An exhibit on Budapest architecture from the Renaissance, from the Budapest Archive, will open on Tuesday, June 5. The same day our archive will sign two agreements of cooperation with the archives from Belgrade and Ljubljana.

On Wednesday, June 6, we will have a promotion of the new Catalogue of the Arabic, Turksih, Persian and Bosnian Manuscripts from the oriental collections and fonds in the Sarajevo Historical Archive and the whole project was supported by Al-Furqān, Islamic Heritage Foundation based in London.

Thursday, June 7, will be reserved for all citizens of Sarajevo. The Sarajevo Historical Archive will open its doors for everyone who has questions or who desires to know more about our institution and what archives really do.

On Friday, June 8, another promotion of our publications will be held. We will promote the newest Analytical Inventory of the City Hall of Sarajavo for 1881 by Mr. Haris Zaimović, an archivist and director of the Sarajevo Historical Archive. On this occasion, two publications from the Archive of Bosnia and Herzegovina will also be promoted.

Finally, on Saturday, June 9, the Week of Archives will conclude with a visit to our depot-rooms from the high representatives of the city of Sarajevo, from politicians, and other guests. We think it is very important to have people from the Government and Ministry who can help and support the archival profession in our country.

The media will be informed about all of these events, and this will be a good opportunity to promote our archive and the archival profession in general.
