Dr Fred van Kan has a background in history completing his PhD in 1988 on the development of the medieval patriciate of the Dutch city of Leyden. He has worked in the archival sector since 1991 and is currently the General Director of the Guelders Archives in The Netherlands. Dr van Kan is President of the KVAN, the Royal Association of Archivists in The Netherlands.
