Digitization of photographs has quickly become common practice in a great many institutions. It provides an excellent opportunity to disseminate historical images widely and greatly increases access to collections.
However, during the digitization process and in choosing equipment process some practical aspects should be observed to prevent damage to the originals and to ensure that preservation requirements are met.
