The Flying Reporters tell you about their unique experience
"The Flying Reporters initiative has given me the unique opportunity to widen my perspective about archives, records and the profession. Being a Flying Reporter has meant engaging in a multicultural and inter-generational dialogue between archivists and records managers, and learning and sharing knowledge from experts on the field about the ongoing professional development. Additionally, it has reinforced the need for collaboration to overcome common problems and to raise public awareness on effective management and preservation of records and archives in order to be accessed and used through time."
Daniel Oliveira (Portugal), FR at 2008 International Congress (Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia), and at the 2010 European Conference (Geneva).
"Working with the Flying Reporters quite literally opened up new worlds to me by giving me the opportunity to participate in conferences in Malta, Malaysia, and France. My role as a Reporter helped me develop important practical skills like website design, working with a team under tight deadlines, and leveraging social media. More importantly, though, being a Flying Reporter gave me opportunities to connect with leaders in the field and develop strong relationships with colleagues across generations and around the globe."
Anne Bast (United States), FR at the International Congress 2008 (Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia), at the DLM Forum 2008 Conference (Toulouse, France), and at the 2009 CITRA (Malta).
"Working with the Flying Reporters was a great opportunity to discover the archival community at an international level and made me I feel that I belong to a very useful and fascinating profession. Frequently, young professionals can find it difficult to get involved into the profession, they are often isolated and that can be disappointing. Being a member of the Flying Reporters Team was a very stimulating and rewarding experience which reminded me that we are doing a fantastic job!"
Lourdes Fuentes-Hashimoto (Mexico-France), FR at the European Conference 2010, Geneva
"I was lucky to participate to the Flying reporters' adventure as it was a rewarding experience. I was able to attend two major events in the ICA life, the international Congress 2008 in Kuala Lumpur, and the CITRA 2009 in Malta: learning from inside how the organization is working, what are its projects, meeting people, knowing about other professional approaches to address common archival issues, and also being an "actor", is for sure the best way to get into international archival cooperation. From a human point of view, common work, solidarity, exchanges with other young professionals with different backgrounds and cultures is an incomparable experience. From all points of view, being a Flying reporter is an excellent contribution to continuing professional development and a good incentive to get involved in ICA and archival international cooperation."
Cécile Fabris (France), FR at the International congress 2008 (Kuala Lumpur), and at the CITRA 2009 (Malta).
