Summarizing the 2008 Congress
While the 2008 Congress in Kuala Lumpur has finished, the knowledge gained will be invaluable to the archives and records management profession for years to come. Here is a quick summary of the event to start looking back on ICA's 2008 Congress.
About 1,200 participants came to the Congress to see 326 speakers presenting at 53 workshops and 169 sessions. Topics ranged from audiovisual archiving to Indigenous knowledge, and 'green archives buildings'. ICA Commissions, Branches and Sections used the opportunity to hold business meetings and the Annual General Assembly also took place.
Throughout the week there was a trade fair, a library and an internet café. The Social Programme included 5 days of cultural presentations, cinema, professional visits to the National Archives of Malaysia and the National Library, as well as visits to sites of cultural and historical interest. Participants had the opportunity to experience traditional Malay Dance, Shadow Play (Wayang Kulit), traditional games, musical instruments and Malaysian handicrafts.
The Flying Reporters covered aspects of the Congress on the ground in KL doing interviews, photographing the social events and reporting on Congress sessions. The results of their hard work can be viewed on the Flying Reporters Congress pages.
All presentations (papers and PowerPoint presentations) submitted to the Congress Committee before or at the Congress are available through the Congress Website on the programme pages.
