The Bureau and the Executive Board of ICA met in Malmo, Sweden, from April 14 to 16, 2008, at the invitation of the National Archivist of Sweden and the Municipal Archivist of Malmo.

As from 1 April, it has no longer been possible to submit session proposals online.

In a few weeks' time, the Congress programme, including approved session proposals, the time and room where they will take place, will be published on the ICA Congress website.

In a few months time, records and archives professionals from throughout the world will share their expertise, successes, lessons learnt from experience and ambitions for the future during the 16th International Congress on Archives, on 21-27 July 2008.

The provisional section on sports archives (SPO) within the ICA is applying for permanent status, to be accepted by the Annual General Meeting of ICA during the congress in Kuala Lumpur, 21-27 July 2008.

ICA will celebrate its 60th anniversary in July 2008 in Kuala Lumpur. 

The conclusions presented by Jussi Nuorteva at the closure of the session of the National Archivists at CITRA in Quebec city on 15 November 2007 are available in English and French.  

The record exchange standard defines a general producer-archive transfer process and transfer format for digital records, in compliance with OAIS and PAIMAS models. Its purpose is to to reduce the risk of loss or compromised records, and the overall cost of transferring digital records from one system to another. This standard is endorsed by ICA, UN/CEFACT and CEN, in liaison with ISO.

At the Annual General Meeting in Québec on 15 November, members of the International Council on Archives approved the decision of the Executive Board to appoint David Leitch as the next Secretary-General. He will succeed the current post-holder, Joan van Albada, on 1 August 2008.

The International Council on Archives has elected Marcel Caya the organisation's first ever ICA Fellow. This appointment, made in accordance with article 12 of the Constitution, was unanimously approved at the Annual General Meeting in Québec City on 16 November. The award of a Fellowship recognises Marcel's outstanding contribution to ICA.
