Engaging with the ICA Strategic Plan 2025–2029

Members of the ICA’s Expert Group on Advocacy and other interested ICA members met during the ICA Congress in Barcelona to discuss the Expert Group’s activities and the newly adopted ICA Strategic Plan for 2025–2029. The Plan places renewed emphasis on advocacy, and the group explored how its activities can best support these goals. Priority areas for implementation were identified, including strengthening outreach, supporting multilingual access to the Unviersal Declaration on Archives, and promoting the value of archives across regions.

Translating the UDA into African Languages

A highlight of the congress was the Co-Lab session presented by Expert Group members Tshepho Mosweu, Forget Chaterera Zambuko, and Claude Roberto on Translating the Universal Declaration on Archives (UDA) into African Languages. The session was well received and underscored the importance of linguistic inclusion in global archival advocacy. The accompanying paper—prepared jointly by the presenters—marks an important contribution to increasing the UDA’s accessibility.

Showcasing the Expert Group’s Work

The Expert Group also featured in the ICA Lightning Talks Session, where Claude Roberto introduced the group’s mandate, ongoing initiatives, and future priorities. The session helped raise awareness of the group’s work and encouraged broader engagement from the archival community.

Looking Ahead

The Expert Group on Advocacy will continue building on the momentum from Barcelona as it develops activities aligned with the Strategic Plan and strengthens collaboration across ICA regions.
