The ICA Communications team is pleased to announce the release of a new member-authored blog on Archives in Practice, continuing our mission to highlight the voices, experiences, and expertise of ICA members worldwide.
We are delighted to feature the latest contribution:
“The First Tuesday Talks: 2021–2026”
By Perrine Canavaggio, member of the ICA Section on Archives and Human Rights (SAHR), this contribution reflects on the development and impact of the First Tuesday Talks series, organised by ICA/SAHR since 2021.
The article traces the origins of the initiative, launched by Trudy Peterson as a programme of bilingual online talks exploring the relationship between archives and human rights. Since its creation, the series has brought together archival professionals, historians, and researchers from around the world to discuss cases linked to truth, justice, memory, and reparation.
Drawing on examples from South Africa, Palestine, Guatemala, Argentina, Russia, and beyond, the blog highlights recurring themes addressed throughout the series, including the preservation of documentary heritage, access to archives, the role of civil society organisations, and the use of records as evidence against former repressive regimes.
If you missed it, you can also explore the previous member-authored article, “Archival Science, Human Rights and Artificial Intelligence: The Luisa Cuesta Repository as a Specialized Archival Service in Uruguay”.
