The course is aimed at professionals from French-speaking Africa, and it will be held in Tunis, Tunisia, from 11 to 16 May 2025. Grants are available for all participants coming from French-Speaking African countries to attend this workshop (see the list below).

What is the scope of this workshop?
In this workshop, participants will have the chance to gain an in-depth understanding of current standards and practices for the management and preservation of digital archives and will develop skills to implement them in their institutions.
The workshop will include presentations, hands-on activities, discussions, guest lectures and other training activities covering digitization of records and long-term digital preservation, with a focus on the use of low-cost implementation tools. Additionally, the workshop will include presentations about the current development, challenges and implications of artificial intelligence in archives, inviting participants to reflect on how emerging technologies will impact the archival landscape.
Finally, the workshop will also be an excellent opportunity to exchange knowledge and build networks with colleagues from francophone African countries.
Who can apply?
To apply, ICA individual members or rights holders of ICA institutional members must meet the following criteria:
- Be a French-speaking archival professional with more than five (5) years of experience in the field.
- Currently work in an archives and information service organization in a francophone African country (see the list below), in a position or on a project related to digital archives.
- Have not had previous participation in similar training opportunities.
- Be committed to transferring the knowledge and skills they have acquired through training activities
Candidates must also provide their ICA membership number and be in good standing with all ICA dues paid. If a staff member of an institutional member, provide the institution’s membership number and a letter of support from the person responsible for the institutional ICA membership.
Please note that new members may not receive their membership number until a few days after payment has been received. New members wishing to apply for the Regional Workshop must indicate the date of payment and mention “Pending Membership #” in the appropriate field on the registration form.
What is the bursary covering?
- The 15 grants offered to regional participants (excepting Tunisia) includes participation, airfare, accommodation, meals and local transportation.
- The 10 grants offered to Tunisian participants includes participation, lunch, local transportation for visits.
Selection criteria
The assessment of applications and the final selection of workshop participants by the Selection Committee will be based on the following criteria:
- Relevance or alignment of the workshop with the applicant’s current professional role, position, or overall career trajectory
- Gender balance
- Appropriate representation from countries within the region
- Evidence of commitment and plan to share the knowledge acquired
Five (5) of these bursaries will be allocated specifically to participants meeting these criteria from Senegal or Burkina Faso in recognition of these countries’ support for ICA’s application to the UNESCO Participation Programme in 2024.
