The International Association of Sound and Audiovisual Archives (IASA) and the Baltic Audiovisual Archival Council (BAAC) have announced their Joint Conference 2026, titled: Archives in Times of Peace and War: Safeguarding Audiovisual Memory, Identity, and Authenticity.

The conference will take place 19–22 October 2026 in Vilnius, Lithuania, hosted at the Martynas Mažvydas National Library of Lithuania.

The 2026 IASA–BAAC Joint Conference invites contributions that explore how audiovisual archives can be safeguarded in both times of peace and war. The focus is on protecting memory, identity, and authenticity in situations of crisis and instability.

Key themes include:

  • Preparedness and resilience planning for audiovisual archives

  • Protecting people, collections, and infrastructure during conflict

  • Preserving threatened and vulnerable community archives (including queer, feminist, and immigrant voices)

  • Ensuring the authenticity and trustworthiness of audiovisual records in the age of AI and misinformation

Call for Submissions

Proposals are welcome for presentations, panels, workshops, and posters. Submissions are invited from archivists, researchers, technologists, community practitioners, collectors, artists, organizers, and other cultural heritage professionals.
