Danish municipal and local archives take on the next step with AI, helped by funding from foundations and Aarhus University. The funding will help archives to move on with machine reading, transcription, crowdsourcing and communication of handwritten documents. The software is Transkribus. The project focuses on the central protocols of the local administration from city and parish councils from the 1840s to around 1940. Text models for recognition of even older texts will also be developed as part of the project. The project is run by Aarhus City Archives and the Organisation of Danish Archives.
