The ICA Fund for the International Development of Archives’ (FIDA) role is to support the development of archives and archivists in countries, regions and communities where archives and records provision could be strengthened due to lack of resources or training opportunities, or for other reasons.
FIDA is a distinct programme of awards to support those projects which endeavour to develop an archive or to support individual archivists, through career development, mentoring and other methods, to enable archives and their archivists to acquire professional and management competencies needed to manage the archives in their countries, regions or communities.
For the FIDA Board of Directors now invites members to submit proposals for projects and initiatives planned for 2023.
The applications deadline is 31 August 2022.
Applicants must be members in good standing of the ICA, at the time of application, or whose parent organization is already a member in good standing and will partner the applicant. Any ICA member from all categories may apply for an award. Non-members or non-member organizations may partner with members to apply for project funding as long as an ICA member is a project lead.
Applicants must provide their membership number.

It is envisaged that there will be up to five awards for a period of a maximum of one year. Multi-year projects must apply for each year of funding separately, with no guarantee of receiving funds in subsequent years.
It is envisaged that each award will not exceed 5,000 Euros and the total to be expended on all the awards in the year will not exceed 25,000 Euros. Exceptionally, projects may be considered for amounts greater than 5,000 Euros, but never in excess of 10,000 Euros.
FIDA application forms (for individuals or for groups/institutions) and support documents are available in English, French and Spanish.
All documents are available for download below.
Applications received will be reviewed by the FIDA Directors. The final decision will be taken in October 2022. Applicants will be notified of the decision by no later than 31 January 2023.
We encourage applications which contribute to the development of archives and archivists (not just national ones) in developing countries in particular.
To aid this process the FIDA Directors will expect applicants to have read the Guidelines for candidates and to explain in their application what they want to develop and how they intend to do it.
The FIDA Coordinator will be able to advise on likely partners and specialists, if these are required, and on any other matter relating to the awards. For more information, please send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
FIDA Live Q&A Session [In English]
In August, we hosted a series of live Q&A sessions to help answer any questions that potential applicants had before the deadline of the ongoing call. In the first session, offered in English on August 1st, Sharon Alexander-Gooding, a member of the FIDA Board of Directors, along with the ICA’s Head of Communication and Partnerships, Maria Paula Garcia Mosquera, gave an overview of the FIDA programme and the main elements to be considered to submit a proposal for this year’s call. Watch the recording of this session below.
