From 19 to 21 October 2022, the Archive of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan will be hosting the first Congress of Archivists to include international participants on the theme of “Open Society – Open Archive” in Almaty. 

The purpose of the event is to create a permanent platform for international interaction and constructive dialogue within the professional community, discussion and adoption of recommendations, decisions on topical issues relating to the preservation of historical, cultural, and documentary heritage, generating innovative ideas for the development of archives, implementation of projects and replication of the world’s best archival practices. 

This three-day event will be attended by different leaders from the region and representatives of organisations including UNESCO, NARA, and the National Archives of Korea. The first day kicks off with a general session titled “Peace and harmony in documentary memory – a guarantor of a constructive dialogue and a creative future”. The second day will be dedicated to working sessions with guests from Poland, Jordan, Turkey, Korea, among others. On this day, Carlos Serrano Vásquez, ICA Executive Director, will be presenting the session on “ICA and current issues of archives development at the present stage”. The third day will close with the adoption of the Declaration on Cooperation of Archives. Collective photography.
