We are calling for participants for an 8-day workshop entitled “Global Archive Community in the Digital Age: Challenges and Opportunities“, co-organised by Shanghai University, the International Council on Archives and the Shanghai Municipal Archives, to be held in Shanghai from 14 to 21 July 2024.

All selected participants will receive a scholarship to attend this workshop.

What is the scope of this workshop?

This workshop aims at giving the participants, professionals confronted with the changes brought to the profession by entering the digital era, broader knowledge and competencies on key angles of today’s archival work. It is designed for mid-career professionals and first-line teachers, researchers and post-doctoral fellows.

Through a number of lectures, seminars, research tours, presentations and other training activities, participants will deepen their understanding of the changes brought to the profession on several topics, from conservation and restoration to Archival data governance, global utilization and sharing of archival heritage and innovations in terms of archives images. It is also designed as a unique opportunity to exchange knowledge with colleagues from both China and the international community.

Who can apply?

ICA individual members or right holders of ICA institutional members who have the following profile are eligible to apply:

  • Mid-career professionals working in archives and information service organizations, having more than 5 years of working experience in the field;
  • First-line teachers, researchers and post-doctoral fellows of information resource management disciplines in higher education institutions.

A good working level of English is necessary for participating in this workshop which will be given in English and Chinese.

Applicants must provide their ICA membership number and be in good standing with ICA dues paid.

What is the grant covering?

The grant offered to participants includes accommodation, meals and local transportation.

Participants coming from developing countries will also have their airfare provided.

If you are a staff member of an institutional member, a letter of support from the person responsible for your institutional ICA membership will be requested.  

You will need to provide information about your passport as you will need to apply for a visa from the Democratic Republic of China to attend the workshop in Shanghai. As a reminder, to obtain a visa for the Democratic Republic of China, your passport must have a remaining validity of 6 months at the time of application and at least 2 blank pages. 

The deadline for submitting your application is Thursday 18 April, 23:59 CET (Paris time).
