Deadline Call for Volunteers: Minutes Taker for the ICA Executive Board and General Assembly

The ICA is seeking dedicated ICA members to volunteer as Minutes Taker for our upcoming governance meetings (Online and during our Barcelona Congress 2025). The Minutes Taker will join the ICA Extended Secretariat and will play a crucial role in accurately documenting discussions, decisions, and actions taken during our meetings.

Volunteering as a Minutes Taker offers a unique opportunity for our members to contribute to the archival community and gain valuable experience in decision making processes. Please submit your application by 15 April, 23:59 CET (Paris time).

Deadline Call for Proposals: Sport Archives Experiences – IV International Seminar on Sports Archives

This year’s International Seminar on Sports Archives of the ICA Section on Sport Archives (SPO) will take place in Girona, Spain. This event is scheduled for 30 September 2024 and will be organised with the support of the Diputació de Girona, the Girona City Council and the Generalitat de Catalunya.

For participating in this seminar, we invite proposals for creating a comprehensive experience summary on sport archives. The aim of this call is to compile engaging and informative summaries that encapsulate the essence of sport archives. We seek proposals that demonstrate a deep understanding of the subject matter and the ability to communicate it effectively to a diverse audience. Please send your proposals via email to spo@ica.org.

FAN Virtual Colloquiums on Archival Matters 2024 / April

We are delighted to extend our warmest invitation to the Forum of National Archivists (FAN) Quarterly Virtual Colloquium on Archival Matters for the year 2024. This series of virtual gatherings aims to foster insightful discussions and collaborative efforts in addressing the contemporary challenges faced by national archives globally.

The first session will take place on Tuesday 16 April 2024 and will be dedicated to exploring the impact of politics and governance on National Archives. In this session, we will delve into the intricate ways in which shifting political goals and policies influence the perception, value, and utilization of national archival holdings, as well as the role of national archival institutions.

Call for Participants: International Workshop on Archives, Shanghai, 14-21 July 2024

We are calling for participants for an 8-day workshop entitled “Global Archive Community in the Digital Age: Challenges and Opportunities“, co-organised by Shanghai University, the ICA and the Shanghai Municipal Archives, to be held in Shanghai from 14 to 21 July 2024.

All selected participants will receive a scholarship to attend this workshop, which includes accommodation, meals and local transportation.

Participants coming from developing countries will also have their airfare provided.

NPP/FAN Virtual Seminar Series – Archives and Social Justice 

Bringing a range of new voices, the seminar series will continue on Tuesday, 23 April with the second virtual seminar about Archives and Social Justice. This session will consider the role of archives, and our roles as archivists, in relation to social justice. The papers selected for this seminar were chosen from the call for papers launched last year. The titles and presenters of these papers are:

1. Queer Memory as Method in a Polarised Public Sphere – Ammel Sharon

2. Climate Change’s Impacts in Latin American National Archives: adaptation and mitigation – Claudio Ogass Bilbao, Mabel Tapia Ponce, Francisco González Villanueva and Oscar Zamora Flores

3. Collecting the Ordinary: The Developing Practice of Youth Records – Itza A. Carbajal

4. Language archives and linguistic justice: a gap in archival theory – Rubèn Fernández

This virtual event is part of the celebration of the 10th anniversary of the ICA New Professionals Programme.

The ICA’s Section on Sport Archives (SPO) is delighted to extend an invitation to the archives and records management community to join us for the third session of #SPOontheSpot: Debates on Archives and Sport, a series of online debates focusing on archives and sport. This session will take place on Wednesday 24 April 2024 and will be dedicated to exploring the following questions in discussion with our guests from the Photographic and Audiovisual Archives Working Group (PAAG):

- What are the most important sports-related fonds/collections in your archive?

- Why do you think they are important?

- Are these images part of a textual collection? How are they related?
