Fernanda RIBEIRO

Fernanda Ribeiro (born 1958) is since 1989 Professor at the Faculty of Arts of University of Oporto (Portugal). Previously worked as an archivist at the Municipal Archives of Oporto (1984-1989). She received her degree in History from Oporto University in 1980 and a post-graduation in Library and Archival Sciences from the University of Coimbra in 1982. In 1999 received her PhD at the University of Oporto with a dissertation entitled "The Access to Information in Archives", under the supervision of Michael Cook. She is co-author of a Portuguese manual of Archival Science under the title "Arquivística: teoria e prática de uma Ciência da Informação" (1999), which got a prize from the Portuguese Association of Librarians, Archivists and Documentalists (BAD) and of another book entitled "Das «Ciências» Documentais à Ciência da Informação: ensaio epistemológico para um novo modelo curricular" (2002). During the last 20 years she has devoted her academic research to access and retrieval of information in archives, subject indexing and theory and methodology of Information Science as well as professional training in the same area.
