Catherine Hobbs

Catherine Hobbs is Senior Lead Literary Archivist at Library and Archives Canada (LAC); prior to the merger of the LAC she was the Literary Manuscript Archivist (English) at the National Library of Canada (2000-2005). She is also an Adjunct Professor in the English MA Program in Public Text at Trent University, Peterborough, Canada.
Catherine was the founding Chair of the Special Interest Section on Personal Archives (SISPA) within the Association of Canadian Archivists and she was a steering committee member for the Section on Literary and Artistic Archives in the International Council on Archives (2011-2019).
A recognized expert in personal and literary archives, Hobbs has participated in and advised global initiatives concerning literary and born-digital archives. She has a particular interest in issues surrounding artistic producers of archives, especially literary archives, as well as individuals’ understandings of their own documentation. She has published on literary and personal archives, and has a strong interest in building bridges between literary scholarship and archival theory and practice.
