This special issue on the subject of professional standards includes: best practice guidance , software, manuals and toolkits as well as formal standards. The issue, produced together with the ICA Committee on Best Practices and Standards, provides an opportunity to review the progress of standardization within our sector. As well as articles on the now familiar descriptive standards, it also reminds the reader that ICA has been working for more than 50 years to improve the physical and financial management of archives and records, notably through its collaboration with Unesco.
