Title: ICA Timeline: 70 Years of International Influence
Date: 2018
Author: ICA, with the collaboration of the international archival community
Resource Summary
Why have we selected it?
This year, the ICA is celebrating 75 years of international influence (#75YearsICA)! As part of that celebration, we want to update the timeline that was created for the 70th anniversary celebration. This timeline was a collaborative work, and we want to once again ask for your help as we add to the timeline and seek to grow the virtual exhibition to help reflect the diverse group of figures and milestones that have shaped the ICA’s international presence and influence over the last 75 years.
What will you find in this resource?
The ICA timeline is a virtual exhibition which allows you to discover the history of ICA over the past 70 years, including its Founders, Presidents and Secretaries General, as well as some of its key events and activities in the 20th and 21st centuries. The timeline is divided into two sections: Key figures at ICA, and Key events and ICA activities. The Key figures at ICA section includes 9 Founders, 20 Presidents, and 11 Secretaries General, highlighting figures such as: Charles Samaran, chairman of the ICA when it was first created in 1948 and at the time, director of the French National Archives; Elisa Carolina de Santos Canalejo, President of ICA from 2000-2004, previously Deputy Director General at the State Secretariat for Culture in Spain; Carl Ingvar Andersson, President of ICA from 1959-1964, and at the time, the Head Curator of the Swedish National Archives; and many more.
The second section, Key events and ICA activities, covers events from the creation of the permanent Committee on Archives in 1931, all the way to the launch of the ICA Training Programme in 2017. It includes events such as the creation of FIDA in 1975 in Dakar, Senegal; the SARBICA Colloquium and 9th ICA International Conference that took place in Jakarta, Indonesia in 1987; the creation of the International Committee of the Blue Shield in 1996, with ICA as one of its founding members; and much more.
