Solidarity with Caribbean Archivists after Hurricane Irma
The ICA’s Elected Officers and Executive Board, supported by the Secretariat in Paris, are very concerned with the situation in the Caribbean following the devastating effects of Irma. The Chair of our regional branch in the Caribbean (CARBICA), Rita Tjien Fooh, has mobilised CARBICA to assess the situation. Following this assessment and in consultation with the archivists in the affected areas, ICA will be organising an assistance programme acting on the advice of Emilie Gagnet Leumas Chair of our Expert Group on Emergency Management and Disaster Preparedness.
At times like this, solidarity of our global community is vitally important, and we are confident that we will be able not only to advise but to offer tangible support to our colleagues in the north Caribbean who are concerned with salvaging and rehabilitating their archival heritage.
