In the National Archives of the Republic of Karelia`s Fund is storing a letter, which history runs back exactly 100 years ago and it has not been received by the addressee.
In the documents of the Archive’s Fund 784 of “Special Committee for the Protection of the Murmansk railway at the Office for the construction of the Murmansk railway” ( list 2 , the case of 1/3) there is a letter of a German prisoner of war Robert Schultz , who worked on the construction of the Murmansk railway. The letter to his father who lived in Emden* (Germany) . The letter was written July 26, 1916.
This letter was taken by the authorities from a resident of the city of Helsinki (Finland) Johan Nyberg who was helping Robert Schultz to deliver the letter to Schultz’s family to let them know about their son’s whereabouts.
The further fate of the prisoner Robert Schulz is unknown to us, but now, 100 years later, in the run up to the International Archives Day, we decided to deliver the letter to the city of Emden, where descendants of Robert Schulz might still be living. We look forward to recieveing the feedback and hope the letter finds its recipients.
