SOCIETY OF GREEK ARCHIVISTS/ASSOCIATION DES ARCHIVISTES GRECS
The Society of Greek Archivists (S.G.A.) is the scientific association of Greek archivists and its members consist of archivists, historians, researchers and employees in the cultural sector. Its main objectives are raising awareness regarding endangered archives and the protection of archival material, promoting and disseminating Greece’s archival heritage and the training of its members. To pursue its aims, the Society organizes scientific conferences and meetings, exhibitions, training seminars for archivists, and participates in international organizations and archival conferences. Furthermore, it has undertaken a significant publishing work, which includes a series of scientific books and handbooks already well established in the Greek bibliography. The international archival standards issued by ICA and other reference documents of the same organization have also been translated in Greek by the Society.
The Society has constantly sought to highlight issues relating to archival management policies including: access, intellectual copyright, personal data, classification and archival description, archives of political parties and politicians, archival ethics, archival buildings, preservation, conservation, digitization, cultural management and relevant best practices. In many cases it was S.G.A that initiated the dialogue and influenced public policies in these fields.
