The ICA invites you to an open virtual session to introduce a new series of eight video resources exploring the impact of AI technology on archival practice. This session will feature a panel discussion with project team members, who will share insights into the approach taken, key topics covered, and surprising discoveries made during the project. The webinar will conclude with a Q&A session. 

The video series was initiated as a PCOM project for 2024 and produced with the support of the National Library and Archives of the UAE. The eight videos focus on: 

  • AI for Appraisal and Selection 
  • AI and Digital Preservation 
  • AI to Support Research and Public Access 
  • AI and Archival Description 
  • AI and Photographic Archives 
  • AI Ethics and Human Rights 
  • Using AI to Promote the Archives 
  • Maintaining a Professional Understanding of AI 

Each video includes subtitles in English, French, and Spanish to ensure accessibility across the ICA community.

SPEAKERS
Dr Hamad Al Mutairi

Dr Hamad Al Mutairi is the director of the Archives Department at the National Archives of the UAE. He joined the National Archives in 2009. He is an IT professional and enthusiast with practical experience in strategic planning and risk management. As Director of the Archives Department, Al Mutairi supervises the operations of five sections: Government Archives, Historical Archives, Presidential Archives, Electronic Archives, Preservation and Restoration. Archiving technologies and solutions are the main focus of his work in addition to managing strategic projects. He is a member of the ICA Programme Commission.

David Fricker

David has had a distinguished international career with over 40 years in archives and government information management. He is a former Director-General of the National Archives of Australia and President of the International Council on Archives, and is currently working as Special Adviser to the National Library and Archives of the UAE. He is an active advocate for the preservation and accessibility of archives worldwide, previously serving as a Vice-Chair of the UNESCO Memory of the World International Advisory Committee and a Global Ambassador for the Records and Information Practitioners Alliance. In 2023 he was conferred the award of Officer of the Order of Arts and Letters (Officier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres) by the Republic of France. He is a Fellow of the International Council on Archives.

Kam Kit Geok

Kam Kit Geok, who discovered and joined the archive profession by chance, is a Senior Archivist at the National Archives of Singapore. She has a MLitt (Archives and Records Management) from University of Dundee, and over 10 years of experience in records management and archiving. She finds archival work meaningful and believes that collaboration is key to the proper management of records and the preservation of archives. With the ever-changing information management landscape and the opportunities and challenges brought by digitalisation and AI, she constantly feels like a novice, and enjoys learning new things through the archives.

Estelle Obe

Estelle Obe Epse Zoghessie is an archivist trained at EBAD (Senegal) and holds a DESS in Institutional Communication (ESSIC). She has over 16 years of expertise in records management, having led key services at the National Archives of Gabon, advised private companies, and worked at the Presidency of the Gabonese Republic. A part-time lecturer for 14 years, she has trained future generations in prestigious institutions. She is the President of the NGO Archivistes Leaders International, a member of the National Committee for UNESCO’s Memory of the World program, former President of the Association of Documentalists of Gabon (ADG), and Treasurer of CENARBICA.
