The International Association of Photography & Theory (IAPT) announces the 8th International Conference of Photography & Theory (ICPT2026), to be held 26–28 November 2026 at the Nicosia Municipal Arts Centre (NiMAC), associated with the Pierides Foundation, in Nicosia, Cyprus.
Titled Photography’s Material Conditions: Residue, Object(hood) and Practices in the Expanded Field, the conference will explore photography’s evolving material presence in relation to objecthood, residue, and expanded artistic practices. Engaging with debates on post-medium conditions, dematerialisation, and hybrid forms, ICPT2026 invites critical reflections on how contemporary photographic practices renegotiate the relationship between image and object, representation and construction, materiality and mediation.
The conference welcomes historical, theoretical and practice-based contributions addressing themes such as photography as object, installation and sculptural practices, digital and transmedial materialities, residuality and afterlives of images, and curatorial strategies in physical and virtual exhibition contexts.
Call for PapersResearchers and practitioners are invited to submit proposals for 20-minute presentations. Abstracts (max. 450 words, including references) must be submitted via EasyChair by 15 May 2026.
