The University Archives and Research Institutions Section of the International Council on Archives is pleased to announce its annual conference, to be held at the University of Coimbra, Portugal, in collaboration with the Committee on Archives of Science and Technology and the Department of Life Sciences of the University of Coimbra.

The event has also the support of the Centre for the History of Society and Culture (CHSC), the Centre for Functional Ecology (CFE), and the Portuguese Association of Librarians, Archivists, and Information and Documentation Professionals (BAD).

The conference will explore how archives can document, interpret and respond to environmental challenges through university and research collections.

The three-day programme will feature keynote speakers, thematic sessions, lightning talks, poster presentations and archive visits. Topics include:

  • One Health and the relationship between human, animal and environmental records
  • Colonial legacies and contested scientific collections
  • Non-textual and material records in archival practice
  • Data, discovery and research infrastructures
  • Collecting and preserving environmental records
  • Sustainability strategies for higher education archives

Speakers will represent institutions from across Europe, North America and beyond, bringing together a wide range of international perspectives and case studies.

The conference will also include the ICA/SUV AGM and opportunities for networking and professional exchange.
