The International Council on Archives (ICA) and the EUreka3D Consortium are pleased to present the second series of webinars on 3D Digitisation and Digital Transformation of Cultural Heritage. Following the success of the 2023 edition, which attracted over 300 participants globally, this new series continues to explore crucial aspects of digitisation in cultural heritage.

The first session, taking place on 26 September 2024, will be facilitated by Frederik Temmermans, Multimedia Interoperability Researcher at Vrije Universiteit Brussel-imec and JPEG committee member. The session will explore the latest advancements in AI-powered image processing tools and their role in ensuring the authenticity and transparency of digital media. As the boundaries between genuine and manipulated content blur, this webinar will highlight best practices for preserving cultural heritage through digitisation.

More information on the agenda for this virtual meeting and the keynote presentation can be found below.

Presentation abstract

The rapidly evolving field of AI-powered image processing tools have revolutionized digital media content. These tools allow us to denoise images, enhance resolution, and even colorize black-and-white photos, opening exciting new possibilities. However, the same underlying technology also made it easier to generate artificial content or manipulate existing media, raising serious concerns about the trustworthiness of what we see. As the line between genuine and altered content blurs, the importance of transparency in digital media provenance has never been greater, particularly in the context of preserving our cultural heritage through digitization. This webinar will explore the latest advancements in provenance signalling and best practices for ensuring media authenticity and transparency.
