On the 9th of June, for eighth time, Bulgarian archivists with pride and joy will celebrate the International Archives Day. Pride – because of our noble profession and joy of a work well done.
The Archives State Agency will hold a press conference under the motto:
“Archives, harmony, friendship” to share our experience, to show the significance of our work, to expand our contacts with colleagues, sponsors, users and partners and with entities responsible for decision making. We will present to the journalists: the Strategy of ASA for the period 2016–2020, the upcoming amendments in the Law on the National Archival Fonds and the urgent need of protection of the national archival heritage; the new valuable acquisitions of the State Archives, including records of the prominent Bulgarian scientist and public figure prof. Marko Semov and the great operatic talent Boris Hristov; renewed exhibition of Jewish incunabula with selected samples from one of the largest collections preserved in the Central State Archives.
The exhibition “Mission: Traveler – Lyuba Kutincheva (1910–1998)”
follows the life of a little known to the public Bulgarian traveler, who has traveled for a decade (1929–1938) across the countries of the Maghreb, the Middle and the Far East, the Sakhalin Island and Japan. The collection of photographs and postcards preserved in the State Archives – Sofia shows then unknown and mysterious places and famous people she has met: the King of Iraq Faisal bin Hussein, the Sultan of Muscat and Oman Taimur bin Faisal bin Turki, Mahatma Gandhi, Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed Ansari, Maharaja of Baroda State Sayajirao Gaekwad III etc.
The exhibition is a part of the 2016 European Night of Museums.
 
The State Archives – Vidin devotes the exhibition “The Architecture of Vidin and Zaječar (ХІХ–ХХ century)” to the holiday, a good joint initiative of the Vidin State Archive and the Historical Archives Timočka krajina Zaječar, Republic of Serbia.
The State Archives – Smolyan presents the exhibition “Revival of spirituality in the Middle Rhodope Mountains”, dedicated to the 180th anniversary of the consecration of nine churches in the Middle Rhodope Mountains in 1836. The Smolyan Archives also arranges a meeting with donors.
 
These are just some of the initiatives on the occasion of the International Archives Day.
