The International Council on Archives (ICA) invites its members to contribute to two crucial funds that are making a significant impact in the field of archives and records management across the globe.
Fund for the International Development of Archives (FIDA)
The objective of FIDA is to assist our colleagues in countries that need support in developing their records management and archival capacity. Each year, ICA allocates a modest budget to FIDA, supplemented by donations from ICA members like you. These funds are then distributed following a call for proposals, allowing members to request support for projects that could greatly benefit from this financial assistance.
However, for FIDA to truly make a difference, we need greater financial resources. In the past, promising projects have had to be turned away due to a lack of funds. We are therefore reaching out to institutions, records managers, and archivists who are ICA members to consider making a donation. Every contribution, no matter how small, is invaluable—archivists and records managers have a remarkable ability to stretch limited resources to achieve great results!
As a donor to FIDA, you will play a vital role in helping ICA deliver its vision across the globe. Your contribution can directly support the development of records management and the survival of the world’s archival heritage. By doing so, you will empower individuals worldwide to establish their identity, uphold democracy, protect human rights, conduct research, and access meaningful education.
Disaster Relief Fund
The ICA Disaster Relief Fund was created to provide emergency assistance to archival institutions affected by catastrophic events. Donations to this fund support grants to repositories holding archival records or special collections, aiding in the direct recovery of damaged or at-risk materials. The fund covers essential services like freeze drying, storage, transportation of materials, and rental facilities. It also provides necessary supplies such as acid-free boxes, storage cartons, and protective gear, and helps cover the costs for volunteers and other laborers involved in recovery efforts.
In addition to financial support, the Disaster Relief Fund offers expert consultation to archival repositories on response and recovery strategies. This includes advice on setting up triage areas, drying wet materials, and conserving damaged items. When safe, the fund also finances the deployment of teams of archival experts to provide hands-on guidance in disaster-stricken regions.
How You Can Help
Your donation, no matter the size, can make a lasting impact. By contributing to FIDA or the Disaster Relief Fund, you are directly supporting the preservation of our global archival heritage and helping communities around the world manage their records effectively and recover from disasters.
Together, we can ensure that vital records and archives are preserved and accessible for future generations. Thank you for your support!
