The International Council on Archives (ICA) is pleased to announce the results of the elections held as part of the 2025 Call for Nominations, which opened in February. This process offered a range of opportunities for ICA members to take on leadership roles, contribute to Expert Groups, and support the next generation of professionals through mentorship.
This year’s call focused on filling the following leadership positions:
- Vice-President Programme (2025–2029)
- Two Member-at-Large seats on the Programme Commission (PCOM) (2026–2029)
- Regional Representative for Latin America and the Caribbean on the FAN Steering Committee (2025–2028)
- Regional Representative for Asia and Oceania on the FAN Steering Committee (2025–2028)
- New Professional representative for the Training Programme Advisory Group (TPAG) (2025–2027)
- Members for ICA Expert Groups: EGAD, EGATTT, and EGLM
- Mentors for the ICA New Professionals Programme
The appointment process for each role varied based on the number of nominations received and the specific election procedures established for each position.
For the position of Vice-President Programme, only one eligible nomination was received. As a result, no general vote was required. The candidate’s application was reviewed and unanimously approved by the ICA Executive Board during its meeting in May 2025. We are pleased to welcome Hamad Abdulla Al-Mutairi, from the National Library and Archives of the United Arab Emirates, as the new Vice-President Programme for the 2025–2029 term.
For the two PCOM Member-at-Large seats, 12 eligible nominations were received. The election took place from 5 May to 2 June 2025. During this period, 1,421 ICA members in good standing were invited to vote. A total of 368 votes were cast, resulting in a 25.9% participation rate. We are pleased to announce that the two elected candidates are Paolo Cecconi (Germany) and Sarah Negumbo (Namibia).
In the case of the Regional Representative for Latin America and the Caribbean to the FAN Steering Committee, two nominations were submitted. As a result, an election was held during the same voting period as the PCOM election. Voting was open to 14 eligible members from the respective region, and Maximiliaan Scriwanek from the National Archives of Curaçao was elected.
For the Regional Representative for Asia and Oceania, only one nomination was received. No vote was required, and the candidate’s appointment was reviewed and confirmed by both the Forum of National Archivists and the Evaluation Commission (ECOM). The appointed representative is Zaidin bin Mohd Noor from the National Archives of Malaysia.
Finally, the Training Programme Advisory Group (TPAG) received 12 strong expressions of interest for its open position. After careful review by the TPAG Chair, Pol Julià Pascual was selected to serve as the New Professional representative. He will join the group for a two-year term.
Regarding the selection process for candidates joining its Expert Groups—EGAD, EGATTT, and EGLM—the ICA appointed nine members from various regions around the world. For EGAD, the selected members are Stella Di Fazio (Italy), Jamie Lee (Singapore), Rawad Bou Malhab (Qatar), and Christopher Hilton (United Kingdom). EGATTT welcomed Bhujang Bobade (India), Amos Bishi (Zimbabwe), Tricia Lawrence Powell (Jamaica), and Shirley Franco (Brazil). Finally, EGLM added one new member: Sindiso Bhebbhe (Australia).
