With United Nations endorsement for the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples in 2007 we have a “minimum standard for the survival, dignity and well-being of the Indigenous peoples of the world.”  The UNDRIP offers an international legal framework for the recognition of the unique collective rights of Indigenous Peoples across the globe. It also recognizes the Indigenous right to self-determination as interpreted through the lens of those human rights.

The ICA Programme Commission established the Expert Group on Indigenous Matters (EGIM) at the ICA conference held in Adelaide, Australia in October 2019. The EGIM was an idea that had gradually gained support in the ICA since the publication of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP) on 13 September 2007

On September 11th, the Australian Society of Archivist (ASA) will host the webinar 'Supporting & Activating the Adelaide Tandanya Declaration on Indigenous Archives' (11 Sept). In this session, Lauren Booker, Rose Barrowcliffe, Prof. Sue McKemmish & Kirsten Thorpe will discuss areas of relevance to support/activate the Adelaide Tandanya Declaration in an Australian context.
