PARBICA's biennial conference - PARBICA 17 - was held in Pacific Harbour, Fiji from 4-7 September 2017. Over 100 delegates from 15 Pacific nations attended conference sessions, workshops and a visit to the National Archives of Fiji. The presentations from PARBICA 17 are now available online. The Director-General of UNESCO has designated National Archives of Australia (NAA) as the laureate of the 2011 UNESCO/Jikji Memory of the World Prize for its work. The Prize-giving ceremony will take place in Cheongju City (Republic of Korea) on 2 September. ICA wishes to offer NAA its warmest congratulations on this well deserved award.

The Australian Society of Archivists, at its annual conference held in Melbourne on 14-16 October 2010, decided to award the PARBICA toolkit «Recordkeeping for good governance» with the Mander Jones prize.   The award was received by Ross Gibbs, Director General of the National Archives of Australia, which largely contributed to the development of the tool.

Archives New Zealand is pleased to announce it has issued a new recordkeeping standard on Digital Recordkeeping, under section 27 of the Public Records Act 2005.   The Digital Recordkeeping Standard (DRS) replaces the Electronic Recordkeeping Systems Standard (ERKSS) – Effective 25/08/2010. The Digital Recordkeeping Standard establishes principles and good practice requirements for creating and managing records in digital systems, in accordance with the Public Records Act 2005.

The 40th Emmett Leahy award has been conceded to Adrian Cunningham, of the National Archives of Australia, for Outstanding contributions to the Information and Records Management Profession. These include Adrian's invaluable input in ICA core projects such as the Good governance toolkit developed by PARBICA, and ICA-Req. The ceremony took place at the Annual Meeting of the Records management Association of Australia on September 6, 2010. ICA on behalf of its members congratulates Adrian for this well-deserved distinction.

  The good governance toolkit was developed in 2007 by PARBICA (Pacific regional branch of ICA) to sensitize governments and decision-makers in the region to the importance of records and archives management for good governance. The project aims to adapt the Pacific approach to the francophone world, in particular French speaking Africa.   Products
