The International Council on Archives (ICA) is proud to announce the seventh edition of International Archives Week (IAW2025), taking place from 9–13 June 2025, under the global theme #ArchivesAreAccessible – Archives for Everyone.

Chosen through a public survey involving over 300 participants from across the world, this year’s theme underscores the critical importance of accessibility in archival practices. It aims to inspire professionals, institutions, and communities to reflect on and advance efforts to make archives open, inclusive, and representative of diverse experiences.

Accessibility is at the heart of our collective commitment. It’s not just about putting documents online; it’s about how we open our collections, how we make them understandable, how we welcome new audiences, and how we break down barriers that may still exist. From 9 to 13 June, we will highlight inspiring initiatives that make archives more accessible. We will explore how digital technologies, artificial intelligence, collaboration with local communities, and awareness-raising can transform access to our documentary heritage.

Josée Kirps, ICA President

Throughout the week, ICA and its members will host a wide range of webinars, events, and digital campaigns, focusing on four key subthemes:

  • Overcoming Barriers to Archive Access
  • Harnessing Technology to Enhance Access
  • Archives in Society: Changing Perceptions
  • Inclusion and Representation in Archival Practices
