As part of International Archives Week 2026 (8–12 June 2026), the International Council on Archives (ICA) launched a global call for proposals last April inviting ICA members to submit case studies aligned with this year’s theme, #ArchivesForJustice: Rights, Memory & Futures. Selected through a competitive process, 17 case studies will be presented by ICA members from across the international archival community during four online sessions taking place from 9 to 11 June 2026.
The sessions reflect the broad scope of the #ArchivesForJustice theme while exploring, in greater depth, the five specific subthemes that shape International Archives Week 2026:
- Archives for Accountability: Rule of Law, Truth, and Transitional Justice
- Archives for Memory: Recognition, Human Dignity, and Lived Experience
- Archives for Inclusion: Access, Participation, and Community Empowerment
- Archives, Colonial Legacies, and Non-Sovereign Contexts: Displaced and Shared Heritage
- Archives for Future Justice: Anticipating Rights, Responsibility, and Possibility
Through practical examples, professional experiences and ongoing initiatives, ICA members will showcase how archival work engages with these issues in different institutional, cultural and geographical contexts.
For participants, these sessions offer an opportunity to discover archival initiatives from around the world, learn from colleagues across the profession, and explore how archives are supporting rights, memory, accountability and community engagement in diverse contexts.
