International Archives Week is a global annual event that highlights the essential role of archives in society. In 2026, the theme #ArchivesForJustice explores how archives support justice by strengthening accountability, safeguarding rights, preserving memory, and enabling access to truth across legal, social, cultural, and intergenerational contexts.
Across the week, the ICA will host a series of online webinars featuring international experts and practitioners discussing how archives contribute to justice in times of crisis, transition, and transformation.
Organised under ICA’s Forum of Archival Networks (FAN), this webinar explores how archives withstand war, natural disasters, and cyberattacks while safeguarding justice, rights, and democratic societies.
Speakers share experiences from disaster recovery, wartime archival protection, and cybersecurity in national archival systems. The session highlights how archives ensure continuity, accountability, and access to justice under crisis conditions.
Organised by ICA’s Expert Group on Shared Archival Heritage (EGSAH), this webinar examines how archival practices intersect with the rights and self-determination of non-sovereign peoples.
It explores how archives are shaped by dispossession and control, but can also support visibility, advocacy, and collective rights. The discussion focuses on custody, access, and representation in contexts where archives are tied to broader struggles for autonomy and justice.
Organised under ICA’s SAGDAA Working Group, this webinar explores the impact of the ICA Declaration on LGBTQI+ Archives and Archivists on the profession.
