We are thrilled to announce that in celebration of the 13th anniversary of the Universal Declaration on Archives (UDA), the ICA is relaunching the Understanding and Using the Universal Declaration on Archives course on the ICA Learning Platform. This course provides an in-depth exploration of the UDA and its critical role in archives and records management worldwide and is now available to our members free of charge!
Your Gateway to Advocacy and Impact
The UDA plays a crucial role in ensuring that archives contribute to transparency and accountability by promoting easy access to archival heritage. This access is essential for understanding the history of nations, peoples, and societies, which in turn fosters a well-informed and enlightened global community.
Adama Aly Pam, Chief Archivist of UNESCO and Member of ICA’s Expert Group on Advocacy (ICA/AEG)
The UDA is more than a document—it’s a powerful tool to safeguard democracy, support human rights, and advocate for accountability and transparency. It is available in 47 languages, making it accessible to a broader global audience.
The UDA safeguards democracy and human rights by supporting the inalienable right to know the truth about the past. It ensures that states are committed to preserving and making archives available to citizens in accordance with transparent rules.” says Adama Pam. “This not only reinforces the principles of democracy but also upholds the fundamental human right to access information.
