The International Council on Archives Section on Archives and Human Rights (ICA/SAHR), together with the Working Group on Archives and Human Rights (GTADDHH) of the Latin American Regional Branch (ALA, by its acronym in Spanish), is releasing a joint statement regarding the potential implications for archives, documentary heritage, and the right to memory arising from the implementation of Article 14 of the Amnesty Law for Democratic Coexistence adopted by the National Assembly of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.
The statement also reaffirms the principles outlined in the Universal Declaration on Archives and underlines the essential role archives play in supporting transparency, historical memory, and democratic societies.
