Editors’ Note
Dear readers,
We are pleased to present to you the inaugural number of the revamped New Professionals (NP) Newsletter! This revamp is the result of the International Councils on Archives’ (ICA) desire to redefine the identity and objectives of the NP Newsletter and to develop a fresh, dynamic and engaging platform for all who are starting out in the archival field. It is an entirely new look, and we have exciting content lined up in a fresh format.
The incumbent editorial team includes the active NPs from the ICA New Professionals Programme (NPP) cohort of 2025/2026, namely Clara Giménez Delgado, Sandy Wang, Arvid de Raaij, Yasmin T. Ismail, and Adrià Font Guim. As new professionals ourselves, we understand that there may be areas of interests that new professionals find pressing, be it relating to professional development or general career advice. Keeping these at the top of our minds, we hope that this revamped newsletter offers you content that you find useful.
In this number, we feature interviews with NP alumni Laura Yturbe Mori and Maria Papanikolaou, who shared with us what they have been up to since their stints as Active NPs. Laura talked about her current work as part of the Early Career and Professional Section (ECaPS) in the Checking in with NP Alumni feature, while Maria answered burning questions that new professionals usually have in the Q&A with Experts section. We have also curated a selection of news and opportunities from the ICA community in the section that is axiomatically titled News and Updates. We highlight the myriad of activities that happened during International Archives Week (IAW), many of which are available for viewing on the ICA Youtube Channel thanks to the amazing work of the ICA Communications Team.
The production of this number is only possible with the support and assistance of María Paula García Mosquera, Laura Yturbe Mori, Gina Chacón and the ICA Communications Team. We would like to thank them for their invaluable contributions.
You may expect to see four main recurring sections in subsequent numbers:
- Editors’ Note provides an overview of the content in the number.
- Highlights and Features presents feature interviews with and/or articles about archivists and records management professionals that may be of interest to new professionals.
- Early Career Professionals Section (ECaPS) is a dedicated section for content created and/or curated by the members of the ECaPS.
- News and Updates is a curated selection of news and updates from the wider archival community.
And on that note, we also implore you to keep your eyes out for a call for feedback about the revamped newsletter. We want to hear from you!
Happy reading!
Clara and Sandy
