Editors’ Note
Dear readers,
Firstly, we would like to wish you a happy 2026!
2025 has been, writ large, packed with exciting events and happenings for the archival community, and as we welcome 2026, we would like to take the opportunity to reflect on the past year.
2025 was a year of milestones and key events that still require us to process (archivist pun completely intended), particularly the International Archives Congress ICA Barcelona 2025. The Congress was arguably the highlight of 2025, and for our cohort of New Professionals (NP), it was not just an induction to the biggest ICA event of the year– it was a culmination of months of hard work and also an opportunity to meet each other in person.
It was with a particular desire to look back at 2025 and to keep our shared experiences on record that we produced this issue of the NP newsletter. This issue was produced in the wake of the ICA Congress by the editorial team comprising active NP from the ICA New Professionals Programme (NPP) cohort of 2025/2026, namely Clara Giménez Delgado, Sandy Wang, Arvid de Raaij, Yasmin T. Ismail, and Adrià Font Guim.
This issue features an interview with NP alumni Gina Chacon, who shared more about the work of the ICA Early Career and Professional Section (ECaPS) and her experience at the Congress, Checking in with NP Alumni. Furthermore, in the Q&A with Experts, we share an interview with Natalia Mendoza Servín about her career trajectory and what New Professionals can learn from this. We also cast the spotlight on the active NP, as they shared their reflections on their first foray into ICA Congresses in a Shared experience of the ICA Congress and the New Professionals Programme. Also, be sure to not miss our call for contributions to the newsletter.
We would like to extend our thanks to María Paula García Mosquera, Gina Chacon, Natalia Mendoza Servín, the ICA Communications Team, and the NP cohort of 2025/2026 for their contributions to this issue.
On behalf of the entire NPP newsletter editorial team, happy reading!
Arvid, Clara & Sandy
