3rd Asia-Pacific Conference on Archival Education "Innovation and Engagement in Archival Education" 23-24 October 2013, Beijing

The executive management team of the Archives of Senegal, under the patronage of His Excellency Mr Macky Sall, President of Senegal, is organizing a festival to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Archives of Senegal. This will take place in Dakar from the 1st to the 3rd of July, 2013. Archivists, academics, researchers, civil servants, and representatives from national and international bodies will partake in this celebration. There is an estimated 200 participants coming from Africa, America and France for the event.

Margaret Crocket, DSG responsible for conferences and currently supporting PCOM’s work, attended the ESARBICA Conference, “Archives in the 21st Century and Beyond: Historical and technological paradigm shift” from the 3rd to the 7th June.

On 16 April I led a group of 24 archivists and records managers in Stockholm for a study visit of three days in Paris. We represented a number of different administrations in Stockholm, including the City Archives. The majority of our group are primarily concerned with Records Management, although the professional distinction between Records Management and Archives does not exist in Sweden. The various study visits therefore tended to focus more on modern, archival issues, such as on long term preservation.

The Steering Committee of the Section of Professional Associations (SPA) held its annual planning meeting in Amersfoort, The Netherlands, from April 22nd to 24th, 2013. The meeting was hosted by Dr Fred van Kan, General Director of Gelders Archief and President of KVAN, the Royal Association of Archivists.  The resolution SPA adopted is the following :
