Few weeks ago, ICA’s Deputy Secretary General, Conferences attended the German Archivists’ Association (VDA) Conference in Saarbrücken. The title of the conference was Archive ohne Grenzen.Erschließung und Zugang im europäischen und internationalen Kontext” (which translates as archives without borders or limits, description and access in the European and international context).

The Secretary General, David Leitch was invited by the PARBICA Board to attend their conference in Honiara (Solomon Islands) in August but, unfortunately for him but not for me, he had a prior engagement so I was invited to go instead. The Pacific countries that make up PARBICA pride themselves on the warm Pacific welcome and rightly so. The conference began not only with the usual distribution of conference bags but also with “garlanding” whereby all visitors were given a beautiful hand-made garland of tropical flowers.

The Association of Archivists of Castilla and León (ACAL) has organized a conference about the intervention on Cultural Heritage and its reflection on Archives, in cooperation with the Section on Architectural Records. So the Section is pleased to announce that this conference will be held in Ponferrada, Spain, on November, 14th and 15th, 2013. In the first week of July I had the pleasure of going on a mission to Bogota, Columbia, in the company of Didier Grange, Geneva City Archivist and Special Adviser of the ICA Secretariat. The main purpose of our visit was to attend a meeting of the Association of Latin American Archivists (ALA) and then the 8th International Seminar of Archives of the Iberian Tradition. We also wanted to find out more about the situation of archives in Colombia and to rekindle contacts with Latin American colleagues, only a few of whom had been able to attend the Congress in Brisbane.

FLASH 26 – FIDA, ICA Annual Conference, Brussels 2013, Memory of the World The Secretariat is pleased to publish online Flash 26 which focuses on projects funded by the International Fund for Archival Development (FIDA), the first ICA Annual Conference which will be held in Brussels in November and the Memory of the World Programme .
